It used to be that you could take a woman out and show her a terrible, terrible time and the only people who would hear about it would be a dozen of her closest friends and maybe a dozen of each of their closest friends.

A pain in the bum to be sure, but nothing that couldn't be solved by moving to another city.

Nowadays, thanks to the Internet and the blogging revolution, she will publish the sordid details of your pathetic attempts at being romantic for all the online world to see.

If you're lucky, the only people reading her blog will be a dozen of her closest friends and a dozen of each of their closest friends that they email the link to.

Unless the date was really, really bad and one of her friends forwards the link to Digg, Reddit or Slashdot. Then you will suddenly be the laughing stock of thousands of complete strangers.

If you want to dip your toes back in the dating pool after having had your shortcomings forwarded around the internet more times than spam about Bill Gates giving you money in return for forwarding spam, then you're going to have to do a little more than simply move.

The Internet may taketh away, but it also giveth. It's easier than ever to simply steal somebody's identity and start again with a new life.
