Some people put their faith in their physical beauty.

We get old.

Some people trust and hope in their intellect, their mind, their achievements. They win awards, achieve great things, make high standards, earn degrees and honors and succeed at their chosen profession.

And in a world of fleeting things, of transience and impermanence, they are eclipsed, forgotten, and blend in with the crowd. They are overtaken by younger, sharper, more astute, hungrier men and women.

Some people cling earnestly, desperately, to their wit and sharp tongue.

Some strive for heights of physical achievement, competing for a moment in time so short it cannot be measured by any human eye or hand, or yearning for one more inch of height, one more burst of speed, one more twist or flip as they dive and leap with great grace.

They are lauded and admired. And they should be, for their hard work and dedication in developing the skills and strength and insight granted to them by God.

But tomorrow brings someone faster. Someone more rehearsed. And as time proceeds we become slower and our bodies do not answer so quickly.

Don’t stop. If God gave you a clever mind, use it. Find answers to questions, don’t be satisfied with "We’ve never done it before" or "That’s impossible."

If God gave you great strength and grace, thank Him and use that strength and grace to amaze people, to make beautiful and elegant displays. Be extraordinary. Seize the day.

But don’t put your trust in it. Because ultimately, everything fades away.

Except, there’s one thing that will never, ever fade away, become any less beautiful, or lose any power. Jesus Christ is life.
