We all have our weaknesses. Achilles had his wretched heel. Superman has kryptonite. Calvin Coolidge was famously afraid of dairy products.

My personal weakness is the mojito. It's minty, refreshing, easy to drink and apparently contains rum.

I have always known that rum is an excellent source of alcohol, but I'm convinced that there is something about the combination of lime, mint, sugar and soda water that increases the effect that the rum has on my brain. How else to explain "The Incident" and the fact that I am now legally barred from entering the city of Worcester, Massachusetts?

I think the secret is in the muddling. It's a mysterious process which requires a special tool known as a muddling stick. The mint leaves, lime and sugar are gently "muddled" to release essential oils from the mint, but not so hard that the leaves fall apart.

It's a kind of ritual and rituals are an essential component of magic. Is it so far-fetched to believe that when master mojito makers madly muddle mojitos that they are casting an evil spell, creating a potion that will "muddle" your brain far more than rum ever could by itself? I say to you that it is not so far-fetched at all!

Thankfully, those keen advocates of responsible drinking at BustedTees have released this Mojitos, Mo Problems T-shirt. I have bought several of them for each of my friends and family to wear at all times so that I never forget the perils that come with a mojito. Well, more than two mojitos. A couple couldn't hurt, could they?
