Back in the days when video games cost 10p a go and were unable to wow their audience with speech, video and other special FX, sprite-based arcade action games like Mr. Do!
ruled the roost.
Many a happy afternoon was spent down at the Hemel Hempstead Sports Centre NOT swimming, running or otherwise doing anything constructive or healthy.
I even used to pay my entry fee just to get in and play the games. Mr. Do! was among my all-time favourites.
You played a clown who, for whatever reason, liked to eat cherries and cake. (Not that ANYBODY needs a reason to do that!) Even more bizarrely, said goodies were guarded by weird monsters.
You could squash monsters with apples or throw your crystal ball to blast them, but if they grabbed you, you lost a life.
Pretty simple fare. And very addictive. Sadly, Mr. Do! is long vanished into the mists of gaming history, but you can celebrate one of the oddest arcade action games with this Mr Do! video game T-shirt. One of many fun items available from this shop.
