Peace and love. Why do people just assume that peace and love go together like cheese and crackers, or Wall Street and questionable accounting practices?

Is it so hard to believe that peace could pair just as well with hate or indifference? In my experience, love is far more likely to cause a disturbance to the peace than hate.

Consider scenario "A". A young man is "in love" with a young woman and seeks to impress her with a number of wildly romantic gestures, each of which causes great disturbance to her neighbors.

Trucks deliver flowers at all times of the day, taking up valuable parking spots on the street. A mariachi band serenades her late at night. A sky-writing plane disturbs a quiet Sunday afternoon in order to spell out words of love.

A horse-drawn carriage may be a romantic start to a date, but it's far less pleasurable for the poor neighbor who accidentally steps in horse droppings.

Now consider scenario "B". The same young man and young woman have developed a deep-seated hatred for one another. They spend all of their time on their computers, posting unpleasant things about each other on an Internet forums. Occasionally one will post an image where the other's head has been photo-shopped onto Hitler's body.

In scenario "B", I can enjoy my supper of pork and beans without being disturbed. I don't have to look at the photo-shopped Hitler pictures if I don't want to; I have my own Internet vendettas to take care of, thank you very much.

This Peace and Love T-shirt, which is available from , spreads a message of "Peace and Love" that frankly sickens me.

If you're a "happy" person who thinks that the world would be a better place if we "all just got along" and "stopped photo-shopping each other's heads onto Hitler", then by all means wear this shirt and spread your hippy joy. I'll be watching, though...
