This is quite a dramatic picture of the San Francisco City Hall following the 1906 earthquake.

The City Hall was built in the early 1900s when graft was ever present. Some of the pillars were filled with sand rather than concrete. In the background you can see the pink glow of the fires that consumed much of San Francisco.

Oddly the ruins of City Hall never burned, but were removed in 1908 and a new City Hall (which is the current one) was completed in 1909.

This tote bag includes the caption "San Francisco 1906" because many out-of-towners will need reminding of the year the ground shook. Click on the bag to be taken to the shop page, which includes many options for T-shirts and gifts with the image and caption on them.

However, the same image without caption is also available on T-shirts and gift items here. See more Vintage San Francisco scenes on gift items here.
