"The reason I have called you all here today is that... one of you is a murderer!" intoned the burly detective, in a burly fashion.

"Gasp!" exclaimed the priest.

"Good grief!" said the old maid, who nearly fainted.

"Surely not!" opined the Professor.

"I say, that's a bit rich old man." muttered the Colonel, putting his brandy snifter to one side for a moment.

"Well that is most terribly worrying," said the woman in scarlet in a seductive tone, "but I'm sure that a man as handsome and intelligent as yourself would have no trouble in finding the culprit. I surely hope that when you do figure out who did this terrible thing that you will be able to resist the temptation of teaming up with them and taking off with all of the money..."

"What money?" asked the Colonel, ever alert to a means of paying off the crippling debts he had incurred betting on tiger fights in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka).

"Well, you see," the scarlet woman licked her lips as she spoke and slowly walked over to the detective, swaying her hourglass hips as she did, "the victim was terribly rich and awfully untrusting of banks. I'm sure that the murderer would be do anything to be able to escape arrest and keep half of the stash found under the victim's mattress. Anything at all..."

The detective was flustered. This clearly wasn't going the right way at all. "Anyway!" He tried to regain control of the room. "I first began to suspect the true identity of the murderer when..."

His words were cut off by the scarlet woman's lips as they met his mouth and began the most sensual kiss of his life, a life that came to an abrupt end when the contact poison in her lipstick shut down his nervous system.

"Oh my, he must have died somehow. Now we'll never know who the murderer is!"

"Indeed. Dashed shame I must say!" said the Colonel.
